LandMARC is providing technical support for the program team as it creates a performance support system for the Pioneer Unmanned Air Vehicle. This performance support system will provide on the job assistance for improved efficiency and thus enhanced performance in completing a task. We are working with web-based technologies to integrate electronic technical manuals in SGML or XML with training for delivery to the user in a remote location. The information portal and management tool is accessed via the web.

Each year, the U.S. Navy and Marines deploy RQ-2 Pioneer Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems to remote locations. These detachments may deploy for weeks or months at a time, and require large volumes of information, including operation and maintenance technical manuals.

Working with the UAV Fleet Support Team at Patuxent River, MD, GTRI engineers have developed a web-based information management and UAV Maintainer's Performance Support System (UMEPSS) that is currently deployed overseas to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. The system includes:

Automatic downloads of current technical manuals (PDF, SGML, or XML formats)
Laptop computer access to refresher training
Shift pass-down information
Enhanced testing and troubleshooting techniques
